General Site Information
Whiteley Woods OAC offers the perfect setting for a residential stay or camp and is ideal for all sections of Guides and Scouts, and leaders. We also welcome schools, charities, youth groups and other organisations. Corporate bookings are considered mid-week and out of season.
We have 3 residential buildings: Renwick, sleeping 30, Plimsoll, sleeping 24, and Goodwin Cottage which sleeps 12. We also have 4 campsites accommodating up to 55 people on each field.
We offer a number of instructor-led and self-led activities, all of which can be arranged as part of a residential stay, camp or a day/evening visit. Our grounds can be booked to hold your evening meeting or for a day/evening visit.
On site we also have:
Bolsover: Available as a camp kitchen to those who have booked camping sites, Bolsover can also be used as a meeting room for small groups. It is especially popular with evening groups wanting to provide refreshments. (Please note Bolsover cannot be used as sleeping accommodation).
Gainsford: A large barn situated in the courtyard. There is an open fireplace – popular for indoor campfires – ample chairs, benches and tables. There are times when the barn is reserved exclusively for groups using the climbing wall.
Campfire Circle: The main campfire circle has fixed wooden bench seating and is located within the activity area. It is available for all groups at all times but please notify the manager to ensure the gate is unlocked. We have another campfire circle located at the top of Coles Corner campsite.
Wood: We do have a supply of wood on the woodpile. Please check with the office before your arrival how much is available.
Fires: All fires must be altar fires, built off the ground either on the concrete bases provided or properly supervised on your site, using the equipment provided. There is a backwoods area where groups may practice lighting small fires directly on the ground. Brushes, shovels & hot ash bins are provided; we ask each group to clear away after use. Fires MUST NOT be situated in or near to wet weather shelters.
Camp Shop: We stock badges, gifts, sweets and souvenirs. The shop is staffed by volunteers and usually opens at 5pm on a Saturday evening but can be arranged for an alternative time should you need it.
Please Note: We are strictly a no smoking site. This includes the use of e-cigarettes.
